Side effects

i know that prolonged use of cortizone can lead to diabetes as well as cataracts. Would this be because of the way it influences your appetite or does it mean that if you are on long term cortizone and you follow a very healthy balanced diet plus exerci you can avoid the possible risk of diabetes? i dont suppose you can do much to prevent the cataracts expect for going for eye checks but i just want to understand the relation to diabetes whether it would be unavoidable or not?

Mara, using cortisone per se doesn’t cause diabetes, but it may cause insulin resistance. This implies that you will use more insulin than normal and this may lead to diabetes. Watching your diet may help in this case because the less sugar you take the less insulin you need. Good luck.
