Our expert says:
Some couples wait until after the 6 week check-up before starting penetrative vaginal sex just to make sure that the cervix is fully closed. Some might start earlier, especially if there have been no stitches and the vaginal discharge is minimal / pink. If you are not sure, contact your doctor. It is important though to maintain closeness and intimacy in other ways. Mutual masturbation and oral sex are other ways to engage in sexual intimacy. If you start vaginal sex, do make sure that you are protected against another pregnancy! Visit the SA Sexual Health Association website for more information www.sexualhealth.co.za
