Separation Anxiety

What should a parent look for with kids if one parent goes to work far away from home and only come back week-ends or how badly will this affect the kids? It has been discussed with them, ages 4,8&12 and they seem to understand.

If this has been discussed with the kids and they understand, there's no reason at all why this should affect them at all. Keep contact, by phone or email while away, and this will help to keep your communications warm and fresh. But don't expect major problems ; indeed the expectation itself would be more likely to cause problems

Many children are far worse than this ie one parent stays thousands of km's away or even never see their parent/s.
The important thing is to make sure that you communicate often with them whilst away. Also make sure that they know you love and miss them.
When you are together then make sure they get quality time with their parent/s.
Never forget the importance of regular contact/communication !!!
