sensitive stomach

Dear Dietdoc
I have a friend who is always suffering from an upset stomach whenever she eats. somedays is better than others, but this occurs most days with severe cramps.
she went for a colonscopy procedure, but everything is normal. The doctor has referred her to a dietician, but she cant afford the visit right now.
do you have any suggestions as to why this could be happening?
thanks so much

Dear Mich
I would love to help your friend, but as I also do not know what is causing her cramps and diarrhoea, I can't really hazard a guess. These symptoms can occur with so many different conditions such as food intolerance or allergy, infections, psychological reactions to stress and anxiety, enzyme deficiencies, irritable bowel syndrome (which does not necessarily show on a colonoscopy), etc. When your friend manages to see the dietitian, she/he will probably do a dietary history to try and determine what foods trigger this reaction.
Hope your friend feels better soon
