Reflect the attitude of Jesus

Read: Philippians 2:1-11

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.” (Php 2:5)

Christian faith that is not applied to all spheres of the believer’s life will not achieve its purpose. Jesus did not come to this world to establish a theological school of thought, but to offer a new way of living to all who would be willing to place him on the throne of their hearts and lives.

The objective of every Christian disciple should be to become more and more like his or her Lord and Teacher. This is of greater importance than any religious concept, any church or organisation, or any other issue concerning which we might have our differences. Our love for Christ should be reflected in our attitude towards our fellow human beings.

We need to give precedence to that which matters most to our Lord. No matter how laudable your religious theories may be, or how sound you may consider your beliefs to be – if they do not strengthen your character and improve your personality, if they do not inspire you to help others carry their burdens, and if they do not give you a sympathetic ear for those in need, then they mean but little.

The way of Christ is not mere theory, but a practical way of living in which, on the list of priorities, God himself comes first, other people and their needs second, and oneself last. At first glance this may seem impossible to really achieve, but those who desire to live to the honour and glory of Christ will be empowered to do so.

O for a closer walk with God, a calm and heav’nly frame, a light to shine upon the road that leads me to the Lamb. (WORDS BY WILLIAM COWPER)

And as we let our lights shine we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. – Nelson Mandela –

Thanks for trying to be helpful, Jabez, but this is NOT a religious forum, and our readers are good people from various religions and none. Please don't turn this into a preaching forum

Thank you for this devotional message. Someone said, in a business context, that if the numeric values (according to position in the alphabet), of the word ATTITUDES are added up, the total is 100. ATTITUDE is everything. Especially an attitude of gratitude. But thanks for putting this in perspective, reminding us that life is not about ourselves, but it is about being instrumental towards a greater purpose.
