Dear Dr,

Thanks for your advice. What can change the bacterial flora or environment of the vagina? Foods that one eats?

What kind of systemic or metabolic disorders can alter your body's acidity?

Would you also perhaps suggest another sperm test for hubby or not?

dear LG

The bacterial flora can change for many reasons including infection as well as the use of antibiotics. It can also be as a result of any factor that can alter the immune system such as severe viral infection, eg the flu. Also in patients who have a predisposition to diabetes or who are diabetic can suffer from an alteration or change in vaginal flora. Any systemic condition that affects the immune system or the general acidity of the body such as uncontrolled diabetes or raised uric acid levels such as one would find in one suffering from gout, can affect the acid balance in the vagina.
Depending on when and where the last speriogram was done, there is no harm in repeating the sperm test.
