RE: Crunching Sound in Ear

I've been to an audiologist for custom-fit earplugs, and mentioned this to her then, but she didn't say much about it at all.

would ear-plugs worsen this problem? Is the damage caused by noise, or physical contact?

Dear Geoff
Ear plugs should not cause the problem - it could be that when your ears are plugged you are more aware of the bone transmission of sound and that the sound can actually be coming from your jaw joint. Did you have a hearing test? Hearing damage is caused by too loud noise.
