Our expert says:
It is not possible to say if you are diabetic or have insulin resistance if your sugar reading was 12 after having eaten cooked oats and having had a cup of coffee. However, a reading of 12 after a light meal, is nearly double the normal maximum value of approx. 7 mmol/L for young healthy non-diabetic adults one hour after a typical meal. To determine if you have an insulin abnormality you would need to have a Glucose Tolerance Test done which monitors your blood sugar and insulin levels after an overnight fast and the ingestion of a specific amount of glucose. Your gp will arrange for you to have this type of test done, so please have a medical checkup ASAP.
