Dear Granny
While it is cheaper to prepare pureed baby foods at home, the Purity range and other types of baby food are safe and well prepared, so they can be used when time is a factors (e.g. for travelling or certain meals if the mother works). These foods do not contain preservatives, colourants, sugar or salt, so they are also safe to use. The use of soy milk (either as a baby formula or the commercially available soy milks) is usually only considered if the baby in question has a milk allergy/sensitivity or if the parents are vegetarians. Soy-based infant formulas are well balanced and can be used to replace other formula milks for allergic babies. The use of commercial soy milk should only be contemplated after the baby has been weaned or is older than 1 year. If the child is not allergic to mother's or cow's milk then it is better to breastfeed or use a standard milk formula until the child is old enough to drink cow's milk or soy milk.
