protein after workout or cardio

on some days, i do a weight workout for about 30-40 minutes   then i take a whey protein shake (to build muscle) and then i go for a 45 minute spinning (cardio) session.

by taking the protein shake before the spinning - is the protein being used to fuel the cardio session??

should i take the protein shake after the cardio session instead?

Hi ash

No, your main energy source for a shorter session like that is carbohydrate, with fat making up the rest of the fuel. ONly when you train for upwards of 6 hours do you start to actually use protein. So I'd wait until after wards anyway, because having protein in the system is generally not great, because it can lead to digestive problems. That obviously hasn't happened to you, but if it does, you'll know the reason.

Good luck
