Print Cartridge Toner Inhalation

Good day

Recently the airconditioner in the print room at work started leaking water. The tech who fixed it said that toner dust from the 3 printers in the room cause the blockage. The room has no windows for ventilation.
This is my concern, can the toner dust that is in the air cause any health risks? There are people who work in the room for 8 hours a day.
Thanking you.

You are justified in being concerned. It is reported that dedicated rooms with copiers, printers etc. especialy without extraction/ventilation can be a potentially unhealthy working environment. This is especially the case where an employee works in the room, as is the case in your email.

What to do?

You need to involve your Health & safety rep, contact an Occupational Medicine Consultant who will do a Legislatively required Health Risk Assessment. An assessment of the inks, toner, fumes and dust will be done.

You can contact OCSA 011 8033538 for further asisstance in this regard.
