Our expert says:
Post Polio Syndrome Symptoms include slowly progressive muscle weakness, unaccustomed fatigue (both generalized and muscular), and, at times, muscle wasting. Pain from joint degeneration and increasing skeletal deformities are common. Some patients experience only minor symptoms. While less common, others may develope visible muscle wasting.
The condition is rarely life-threatening but due to the weaknesses that set in, expert care is highly recommended.
There are several PPS Support Groups and I would recommend you surf the South African net for such. They will also be able to advise on the procedure for registering for disability benefits.
Your family physician can be of great assitance and I would recommend you discuss your husband's condition with him in greater depth.
Chiropractiv care may at times of some relief - but will not improve the condition very much.
