Dear Tabo
The type of research that goes into setting up 'food guidance systems' is a highly complex process that takes many years. It is made up of research (worldwide and in the specific country), expert consultations, Government task groups, etc. I was privileged to participate in the formulation of the SA Food Based Dietary Guidelines, a process that took many years. If you would like to read more about the process and the final Guidelines, try to obtain back copies of the SA Journal of Clinical Nutrition, particularly those of 2001, Vol 14, No 1 and Vol 14, No 2.
Best regards
