Piercing and theatre procedure

Why do I need to remove my piercing (Genital) for theatre procedures and what if I can not remove them? I prefer to tell the nurse that I do not have any piercing.

Dear OJ
Because we sometimes use cauterization during operations and if you have any metal on you it may cause serious burnwounds. If you can't remove it you have to tell the nurse so that they can take precautions to prevent burns.
