PID

I was recently diagnosed by the Gynaecologist with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease(PID). What cause it? How is it transmitted? How severe or dangerous can it be, and can you live a normal life?

Dear Doc.

Can the bacteria only be transmitted sexually or through other means as well?
Looking forward to your response.
