I'm amazed at how often some doctors and hospitals seem eager to do useless and irrelevant serum iron levels. I wonder if its profitable to do so ? If one has other reasons to suspect that someone may be anaemic, a simple blood smear usually reveals the confirmation, and iron tablets should be cheap and effective.
Get your GP to refer you to a psychiatrist, who is the appropriate specialist here. He is probably right that you are suffering from panic attacks, and with simple treatment like CBT and perhaps some meds also used for Depression, you could get control over these episodes relatively soon.
