Pancreatitis

My friend was recently diagnosed with pancreatitis. The first week of test showed that the liver functions was normal and then all of a sudden the second week the same tests were done and it reflected that the liver was affected. The last test done once again reflected "normal" liver function. Could this be the cause of the pancreatitis or could this be the start of liver cancer/cirrhosis? He has complained about taste of foods/liquids affected as well as sense of smell (improved) - he did stop smoking 6 weeks prior to the attack. He has used alcohol moderately over a number of years and has been told to quit altogether. What foods should he avoid to prevent a recurrence of pancreatitis as well as assist with discomfort he still has? How long will he still have the affects of pain and discomfort?

JB, when the pancreas swells due to the inflammation associated with pancreatitis, it may hamper the drainage of bile from the liver. The pressure that builds up in the bile ducts due to this may then cause a rise in liver enzymes and is therefore to be expected.
Stopping alcohol and following a low sugar diet is about all he can do to protect the pancreas. There is no reason to believe that he has suffered liver damage, so he doesn’t have to worry too much about that. Good luck.

How long will he have the pain and discomfort? He still has a lot of pain and discomfort. He is currently not taking any medication as he was warned that this could also affect the liver. He has lost 10kg in four weeks - could this be becaue he was on pethydene for 15 days or could this be something else?l
