Ovarian cyst

My sister had an op Jun 04 to remove a cyst that was about to burst & a few weeks ago she had pain, went for scan & was told she has another cyst which is about 3cm now, is there anything she can use so as not to go under the op again as this will be a 3rd op (she had a ceasarian birth in July 02) & believe she is not yet strong for another one this time(FYI - she is in Zimbabwe where everything is very expensive & not much medication) What causes cyst, how can they be prevented, is is hereditary??

She could go on the pill, Nordette for 3 months to try to shrink the cyst. Many small cysts are normal. The egg grows in a cyst each month. After ovulation, the cyst disappears. This can be painful for a day or two, but then gets better. These cysts do not need any operations.

Best wishes
