sometimes one needs to take a course of antibiotics to get rid of the infection - ask your GP. Also rinse your nose with salt water - make up 1 cup of luke warm water with 1/2 teaspoon salt - sniff it up into the nose and blow out. It makes the phlegm thinner and easier to drain. ( not very pleasant to do though)
