Shift work is not a normal pattern of work. This is recognised - can cause or aggravate illness associated with ulcers, stress, insomnia, hypertension etc. One should have a medical before commencing shift work and regularly ( 1-2 years) thereafter.
Many people do not cope with shift work and choose to leave for alternative, day shift only. Then again many do cope and adjust their lifestyle - many prefer the free time of shift work.
