Our expert says:
Probably not in the way you're thinking of. Every time you think, and most of the rest of the time, your neurotransmitters are fully activate and working. What the medication aims to do is when one specific transmitter is in relatively short supply, to make it more available of more effective, in several ways --- I'm not sure whether one can do that without medication. The closest thing would be CBT counselling which is the only form which good research has shown to be at least as effective as medication, and with lasting benefits, so presumably it must beneficially influence those transmitters !
