missing periods

Hi Gynae Doc,

Could u advise me on wether when u miss a period it is because u have either lost or gained weight? i was under the impression it was because u had lost weight... but, i read recently that it could be because of weight gain? could u perhaps explain why this happens ( bearing in mind that i am fully aware of the fact that i have not been sexually active)
