missing 1 artery in umbilical cord

i am 24 weeeks pregnant, an ultrasound indicated that there could be only 1 artery instead of 2 in the umbilical cord, i have been told that in the majority of cases this is not a prob, i would like more info re. what the implications are and where i can get more info. Thanks

A single umbilical artery is associated with other abnormalities. Most of these can be picked up on ultrasound. If you have a specialsied scan at 22 weeks and all is normal, then the chances of there being a problem would be very low.
