Dear Binky
Maize or corn on the cob, is generally classified as a starchy vegetables under carbs. It contains 454 kJ/100g and 41,4 g of carbohydrates. Butternut only contains 162 kJ and 6g of carbs per 100g (thus butternut has a much lower energy content than maize). There is no difference in the energy content of those small mielies that one can eat in salads, but because of their small size one would probably ingest less at a given meal than if you eat a large portion of regular corn on the cob.
