men vs women and obesity

I am so frustrated- my husband and I , both 60, are equally, or less active, I should say! I do some housework and gardening- he walks around his factory.
He consumes vast amounts of alcohol, red meats, animal fats, etc
I follow a low GI diet and tend towards vegetarianism, although I do still consume flesh and dairy. I drink no alcohol at all.
We are both really short and both weigh 80kg. Or at least we did, until he started only cutting out second helpings. I constantly work at eating in moderation- I eat 4 small meals a day and am often hungry.
He has lost 5kg in a month since he started cutting out seconds.. I sometimes lose 2kg in a month then put it straight back on.
Besides this I am full of aches and pains, muscular and joint, as well as suffering from hot flushes, fatigue (I need easily 10 hours sleep a night), chronic non-specific allergic sinusitis.
It just isn' t fair. I should be the healthier one. What goes on?

Dear Anonymous gal
It is unfair, especially if you try so hard! Please have your fasting sugar and insulin as well as your thyroid hormone levels tested - you may have a bit of insulin resistance causing the chronic hunger and preventing weight loss
