Mango flies

Hi Doc

I heard there's been a lot of cases of mango flies in Gauteng and Mpumalanga. How exactly do they get under your skin? And what early sign are there. I've only seen them when they're dead.

Hi SHM
They like to lie their eggs in damp clothing, the eggs develop into larvae that burrows into your skin. Prevention is to ensure that your washing is well done, and to iron or tumble dry all clothes when it comes of the washing line - especially baby nappies and things you would not normally iron.
