Dene, you should take the first does one week before your date of arrival. Good luck.

It depends on what type of treatment you're taking. We're going to Mozambique next weekend for 3 days and are taking Lariam which our GP recommended. This course you have to start 1 week before going, take while you're there and for 4 weeks after you come back. The nice thing about Lariam is that it's only necessary to take it once a week. Ask your GP about it, because you can only get in on prescription. Other anti-malarial medications you have to take every day, which I find more difficult to remember! Netcare Travel clinic at Sunninghill hospital confirmed that Lariam was one of the best anti-malarial courses to take.
