Our expert says:
In theory leptin injections may help for patients who have a real leptin deficiency (this is only a very small % of patients). However, the majority of individuals who are overweight and have a leptin problem, suffer from a type of "leptin resistance", so injecting even more leptin into such people will still not have the desired effect on weightloss. I am also not aware of leptin injections being available in SA. So please be careful. Don't have injections which are not manufactured under stringent hygienic conditions and do not contain the real thing. Ask the person who proposes to inject you, to give you the package insert of the injections - you will after all have to pay for them and this is your right as a patient. Read the package insert carefully before you proceed with this type of treatment.
