The symptoms of lower abdominal uneasiness, bloating, leaky bowel and loose stools, could be due to a lactose intolerance. You can either cut out all milk and dairy products and all foods that contain milk (check on the labels) for 2 weeks to see if your condition improves, or ask your doctor to send you for tests. If your condition improves when you remove all dairy products from your diet then you may well be lactose intolerant or allergic to another compound in milk such a one of the proteins. This would mean that you need to avoid all milk and dairy products, which can be rather tricky to apply and I would recommend that you consult a registered dietitian (visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: www.adsa.org.za and click on "Find a Dietitian" to find a dietitian in your area), to help you with a dairy-free diet. Avoiding all milk and dairy also means that you will no longer be obtaining your 1200 mg of calcium per day which is required for good health, strong bones and to prevent osteoporosis and/or brittle bones. In such cases you would need to take a calcium supplement like MenaCal.7 on a daily basis. Your symptoms could, however, also be caused by other conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, so please ask the dr to do a complete medical examination to exclude other causes.
