Knee tracking

I recently had an ITB release (runners knee) done on my right knee, the surgeon also told me that he found 'tracking' in my knee which was not evident in my x-rays or MRI. Please could you explain exactly what he means by tracking? Thanks.

Hi Tweet
What this means is the path that the knee cap should be taking was not correct. Usuall this is due to the vastis medialis muscle not working, or the ITB pulling too tightly. Once released it should move in the correct line.
Again I must stress that surgery is a last option.
