Maybe you could apply the sort of criterion used often in psychiatric diagnosis ( because we all get a bit blue, or anxious, or whatever, and that's perfectly normal ) --- the boundary beyond which something is a problem or disorder, is when it starts to significantly intefere with your normal activities in your personal and work life.
Be careful that sweating too much over the little things, you overlook the bigger and deeper things. And be careful that instead of being supportive, one can become controlling, and do too much. When your help is enhancing the other person's ability to succeed within their own autonomy and freedom, that's great. When it stifles and smothers them, it's not good.
