Our expert says:
Seeing a child psychologist could be a very good idea, to get a rapid assesment of what's happening ( she/he could also be able to talk with your child and get information maybe you wouldn't ). Maybe something did go wrong under the care of the previous teacher ( one wonders why she resigned ). At various times, for reasons not always understood, at such ages ( and some others ) a child develops what is called Separation Anxiety, in which they suddenly get very anxious about being separated from their Mom, wherever they're going. IS he happy to be left with ANYONE, for instance, his Ouma, or does he react this way whenever he's due to be away from you ?
Also, as jennie reminds us, an unrelated problem can present itself in this way. A child can for various reasons have problems about using the toilet at all, ( or doing so may be uncomfortable ) --- and rejects any possibility of needing to use a strange one he doesn't kno.
Seeing a child psychiatrist / child psychologist soon is worthwhile, before this problem becomes too much of a habit with him, as it'll then get harder to relieve.
