itchy mice

Hi,
i have 2 pet mice. they are constantly scratching their ears and heads. one of the mice has a few bald patches on her back and it seems like she has lost hair on her face too(it looks pink). The other mouse also scratches and yesterday, i noticed her one eye seemed to be a bit more closed than the other. Any idea of what could be causing this? i think it could be mites but not sure.
thnx

The most likely cause is a mite infection - take them to your local vet to get an avermectin product to use - this needs to be repeated every 10 - 14 days for 3 treatments. Other causes would include an allergy to the sawdust - replace with newspaper, and even a viral infection (this causes small smooth bumps on the ears, which can become quite itchy) . If viral, it usually resolves by itself in a month or two.

If they have sawdust in their cage, it is more than likely an allergy to that. Try lining theircage with shredded newspaper, or something similar.
