Also check out the archive of this forum, as various aspects of step-parenting have been discussed before. it's really difficult not so much to deal with this child as a step-parent, but as an occasional step-parent, with someone else controlling the rules and discipline at other times, if I understand you correctly. When someone else is setting the rules, or has done so and they're still in force, you're in a more dificult position. But the child's father surely has to become far more involved in helping to sort this out ?
