Insomnia in Teenager

Hi, my 16 year old teenage daugher is having problems sleeping. She manages to fall asleep at about 8.30 p.m. but then wakes up in the middle of the night for no reason and then battles to get back to sleep. This is obvsioulsy causing problems at school as she is always tired. What could be the cause and how do we prevent this.

thanks worried mom

Dear Stellie
She may be a bit anxious about schoolwork or being bullied at school or just highly strung. Try giving her 2 Biral at night but if this persists it may be worth your while to take her to an educational psycologist just for evaluation. They know the matric exams is just around the corner and is pushed to perform to be able to get into university courses.
