Just learnt about a natural mixture called Fertilityblend that is sold in Europe to help with hormonal balance for women trying to conceive in another American website. The main ingredient is chastberry. Where can I find that in South Africa?

Fertility can have so many different causes it is best to have a complete check-up beforehand.
Often we assume that problems with fertility are only caused by hormonal problems, but even here it can depend on which hormone is out of balance. Different herbs will have different effects on certain hormones. Chasteberry, also called Vitex Agnus Castus is commonly used for cases where a woman is not releasing sufficient Luteinizing hormone (LH) and thus their progesterone levels are low. This can help regulate their menstrual cycle and improve ovulation. Chasteberry also helps lower the hormone prolactin, additionally improving the chances for fertility.
Herbs do have a strong influence on hormones, so before taking them it is best to see if they are necessary for you.
Please consult with your doctor to do the necessary checks before planning a pregnancy.

Hi Debra

The other name of chastberry is Agnus castus.
The are a couple of products containing this ingredient together with others. Bioharmony Agnus castus is available at health shops and certain pharmacies.
Chastberry (agnus castus) works by stimulating the pituitary to release LH which in turn stimulates ovulation (in the same way as Clomid) with subsequent increase in progesterone as well.

However, it will only work if ovulation failure is the cause of infertility. Fertility blend has a 33% (5/15) success rate at the moment.
