My boyfriend was a procurement officer at a certain company.
Suddenly, he was shipped off to a mine 170kms outside Kimberly, with only a few days notice, and threatened with his job if he didnt go to relieve the workload.
Now he's doing manual labour by xraying grease to find diamonds, and heavy work.
A few weeks ago, he sprained his shoulder, and it had gone away, but now its back and he battles to even move it without large amounts of pain, due to the heavy lifting work.
He is also out in the cold and has developed a bad cough.
Problem is he is working up to 15 hours a day (aprox from 5am-10pm) WITHOUT GETTING PAID OVERTIME. He works weekends as well, and has been told he will get 1.5 days off for every weekend he works!!!
I think its grossly unfair, and VERY unhealthy, isn't it illegal??? Please help, what can i do???
he doesnt want to say anything because he really needs his job, and he is supposed to stay there 1 month+ but i think theyr leading him on by saying the harder he works the sooner he will be able to come home.
Please, any advice would be great...!!!

Obviously the Contract has to be looked at in order to determine whether an individual can be transferred from one place to another. Furthermore, a change of the job description also needs to be ascertained from the contract. However, manual labour is not illegal. Working overtime does attract overtime payment and this is worth pursuing.
