Hi Doc, I have had a hysterectomy and have one ovary left. Is it still necessary to go for gynealogical check ups and if so how often. I am 43. Thanks

Dear Hysterectomy
You don't have to go for papsmears, but it may be a good thing to go for a sonar and blood tests about once in 3 years.

I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago (I am also 43) and have both my ovaries. I was told that I must still go for a pap smear every year - and I do. I have a full gynae check up - even a mammogram.

Once they have removed your Uterus, they also remove your Cervix, so you don't have to go for Papsmeers. You can have your Hormones tested (when you feel they are to low) and go for Sonars every 5 years or so, to check that your Ovary is still okay.
