Our expert says:
I assume you are referring to hypERtrophic rather than hyPOtrophic labia - in other words the labia extend a little outside of the vulva...? There are such a range of 'normal' vulval shapes and sizes, and men don't seem to mind what they look like. It is unfortunate that your boyfriend teased you about this - it's a little like making comments about the size/shape/look of a soft penis - it means nothing in terms of sexual performance but can make a big difference to how the person feels about their body! Try to relax in the knowledge that many women have different shapes/sizes to their labia - just because you couldn't see it at school doesn't mean you were the only one! If you're getting that intimate with a man that he is about to see your vulva, I would assume that you are already secure in the knowledge that his is attracted to you - including all of your body.
