Our expert says:
I don't know who suggested that your friend should go on a preservative-free diet, but if she was being treated by a medical dr or an allergy specialist or a dietitian, then she would have had tests done to determine which preservatives she needs to avoid. Without this knowledge your friend cannot eat ANY processed foods as the majority contain one or other preservative. She would have to eat only fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, fresh milk from the cow, home-made yoghurt, legumes prepared at home, maize meal and maize, barley, and wheat (she would have to bake her own bread and cakes, etc). So until she has a proper diagnosis which specifies which preservative she must avoid, it is practically impossible to make any recommendations. I would advise her to ask her gp to send her for allergy tests to determine which preservatives are indicated.
