Dear Popcorn
According to the SA Food Tables unbuttered, plain popcorn contains: 1908 kJ, and 21,8 g of fat per 100g; sugar-coated, candied popcorn contains: 2018 kJ and 20g of fat. Weigh how much you eat in a day and calculate how many additional kJs and how much fat you are ingesting.

you can buy a pop corn popper that uses no oil, just hot air, and it contains no fat, and you can eat it all day long.

If you are making it with oil it can make you fat like anything else. If you purchase popcorn in those microwave packets, they are usually VERY high in fat. They give the fat content on the label. Anything above 3grams of fat per 100 grams in considered high. If you are using the normal popcorn packs you can air pop it in the microwave or use non-stick cook ware like Cookwell Pots that wont burn the popcorn if you use no or little oil. I think you will find that if you are going to make your popcorn fat free you are not going to enjoy it as much as the popcorn you are eating now. We always like the bad stuf.
