How contagious is Meningitis?

Hallo
My flatmate was admitted into Rosebank Clinic yesterday with suspected meningitis. How contagious is it? How high is the risk that I will also have it? What is the incubation period for this disease?

Regards
Chante

Dear Chante
don't take chances, if she has a bacterial meningitis ask your doctor to put you on preventative medication. Viral meningitis is less contagious but the disease is spread by droplets ( sneezing, coughing etc) so you are at risk.
