high-fructose corn syrup

Ek het die epos uit VSA gekry? Interessant.

There is an ingredient in virtually every processed food that could be ruining your health. I'm talking about high-fructose corn syrup ... a cheaper, sweeter, liquid alternative to sugar. Before 1966, we did not consume ANY of this stuff. Today, the average American swallows 64 pounds of it per year.

What's the problem? For one thing, the chemical structure of high-fructose corn syrup encourages overeating - which leads to obesity. . It also increases triglycerides, raising the risk for a heart attack. And it promotes insulin resistance and diabetes.

It's in soft drinks, of course. But it's also in baked goods, jelly, juices, condiments, salad dressings, and even "healthy" bottled green tea.

To cut high-fructose corn syrup from your diet, you will have to check labels carefully, because it's not only in sweet foods. Better yet, as always, stick to whole, unprocessed foods.

Beste Hennie
