Hi how to get rid of pigmentation and dark marks under eye? Please give me the best option I can use. I have already visited the dermatologist but my problem did not go away.

Thank you for the question. This is difficult to answer over the web as ideally one would need to examine the area first before deciding on the best treatment approach.

Dark marks or pigmentation lower eyelid are caused by:

  1. Pigmentation
  2. Increased vasculature or visibility of fine veins
  3. Tear trough: a depression created by fat loss causing the skin to fall against the bone resulting in less light reflection producing a shadow effect
  4. Combination of the above

Treatment Options:

Lasers: some lasers like the V Beam Perfecta can remove both pigmentation and fine veins while other lasers such as the CO2 laser can ablate excess skin and cause some tightening and removing excess skin (expect a max 30% improvement)

Dermal fillers:

These can be used to lift the skin out of the tear trough allowing light to reflect and hence take away the shadow effect (dark circle)

They can also be used in the eyebrow and temple area to further enhance, lift and improve excess skin of the upper lid

Medication:

Allergies: always consult your doctor first but anti-histamines may be a good idea if the dark circles are caused by inflammatory or allergic conditions

Topical products:

Sun Screen: my preference is a sunscreen that contains zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide; these minerals reflect UV light giving you maximum prevention

Always try to wear sunglasses and a hat or cap when outdoors especially in the hot summer months

Use a concealer

Skin brighteners: see below

If the darkness is caused by pigmentation and/or sun damage, then skin brighteners such as Vitamin C and Vitamin A or Retinol may be the answer

Alternatively use the Vitamin C during the day and the retinol at night giving twice the effect on this area

Examples of topical skin products:

Eye brightener: DERMAQUEST SKINBRITE EYEBRITE: https://www.skinmiles.com/shop/skin-care-product/dermaquest-skinbrite-eyebrite/

Retinol or Vitamin A Skin Product: DERMACEUTIC ACTIV RETINOL 0.5: https://www.skinmiles.com/shop/shop-by-brand/dermaceutic-activ-retinol-0-5/

Vitamin C: OBAGI PRO C SERUM 10%: https://www.skinmiles.com/shop/skin-care-product/obagi-pro-c-serum-10/

Your best option would be to send me a high resolution photo of the face so I can have a closer look (dralek@skinmiles.com) or take my online skin assessment at: https://www.skinmiles.com/face2face/

I hope the above has helped but let me know if you need any further info

Kind regards
