Congratulations on the birth of your baby. While you are breast-feeding which is the single most important gift you can give your child as it will have a positive effect on the child's health for the rest of his/her life, you should not go on any strict or unbalanced type of diet. Please see a dietitian ASAP (visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: www.adsa.org.za and click on "Find a Dietitian" to find a dietitian in your area). The dietitian will work out a weight loss diet for you that still supplied you with all the nutrients you and baby need, but does reduce your weight. Doing regular, daily exercise like taking baby for a walk in the pram for 30 or more minutes a day will also promote weight loss.
