Dear blackboy,

The normal resting heart rate for an adult is anything between 60 – 90 bpm.

During exercise, the heart rate should not exceed 70% of (220 – age in years), and that rate should not be sustained for long. If you are unfit, you should not aim at the rate immediately, but build up to it slowly.
