health problems at ovulation time

Bloating, thick gelatinious mucous with white streaks, oedema - hands and feet(ankles). Increase in facial hair- chin & upper lip. Some discomfort in abdomen but no drastic pain. Last had a pap smear at GP, Jan. 2000 and no other female check up since or for about 5 years prior. Breast tenderness all through the monthly cycle and weight gain in the past 6 months - no deviation from previous eating patterns or activities? I'm almost 43 years of age. Early menopause?

It could possibly be that these are menopausal symptoms. The thing that stands out is that you have not had a gynae check-up for almost 5 years. This is long overdue and would be a good idea now.

Possible peri-menopause. But a thyroid function test for, particularly, an underactive thyroid gland, would not be a bad idea. It could explain the weight gain and increase in facial hair. You don't mention whether you also get cold quickly, but that could be another symptom.
