I do not quite understand what you mean, as a grommet is required to be inserted into the eardrum. If you mean the grommet was pushed into the middle ear, it may reqiure a bigger procedure to remove it. It could mean that the eardrum must be raised, this is an approach often used to repair a perforation in the tympanic membrane. Sometimes the grommet is visible via the original opening, and it could be removed through this opening.
This all depends on the extent of the problem and the original position. Please discuss this with your ENT surgeon.
