Since being put onto Glucophage to assist with weight loss, I have lost 2kg's. I am not diabetic but have been battling for a long time to lose any weight despite a dietician's diet and a rigorous gym schedule. What exactly does Glucophage do? I'm really thrilled about this progress but am curious about it.

Dear Liz
Some overweight people ( and some not so overweight people) get a condition called insulin resistance where the body makes enough insulin but does not use it effectively. Glucophage helps to normalize this by delaying uptake of glucose from the intestinal tract, making glucose utilisation better by increasing insulin sensitivity and inhibiting the making of sugar by the liver.
