Gagging while eating

My father is 70 years old and for the past two years has battled often when eating (no matter if it's eggs, braai or whatever) and his throat closes and he has no choice but to regurgitate all the food. He has been for numerous tests and has been told there is nothing wrong, but there has to be some reason for this to happen. He never knows when it will happen (but it does happen at least 3 - 4 times a week), so with the result he won't go and eat out in public at all anymore.
He is also epileptic and is on medication for this, otherwise he is in good health.

Lindy, it’s difficult to say what the problem is without being able to examine him first. It might be that he had a small stroke and that his swallowing is affected, it might be a muscle problem or that his medication is affecting his co-ordination. The best would be to take him to a neurologist and have him thoroughly examined. Good luck.
